Card Hybrid DVB-H and HSDPA for notebooks
Onda Communication, a leader in the field of mobile telecommunications and computers, in agreement with Siano Mobile Silicon, a leading supplier of advanced solutions for MDTV, and CyberLink, a world leader in digital entertainment and multimedia software, has submitted T he first PC card for mobile digital TV (MDTV), a modem that supports DVB-H and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). Addressed to the market for desktop and laptop computers, the PC Card DVB-H/HSDPA will be initially marketed by TIM, with the codename DT501HS, allowing users to access, anywhere and with ease, a wide spectrum of multimedia and data transmission, such as movies, music and sporting events.
"We consider this product as a natural extension of our current products DVB-H and HSDPA" said Michelangelo Agrusti, president of Wave. "Italy was the first European country to commercially develop the DVB-H, and the service now covers the entire territory. This new product now allows consumers to turn their desktop or notebook PC in the center of all multimedia applications and data and can simultaneously access the TV and interactive services. With a laptop, the customer can not only receive the content but also store, edit, forward, obtaining more value from your subscription DVB-H.
The innovative product that interfaces to the laptop via a USB 2.0 high speed, includes a SIM card operator (TIM) and a mechanism for secure access Nagravision. Unlike other DVB-H available on the market, the DT501HS does not have the clutter of an external antenna. It uses, in fact, the tiny and innovative antenna on the Siano chip, the SMS8021, mounted on the internal PCB, which allows a high gain over the entire UHF spectrum. DVB-H is guaranteed by Siano's single chip receiver, the SMS1010, which allows you to move at high speed, to move seamlessly from one cell to another and have a receipt, sensitive enough to permit the use of all 'inside of buildings.
"By offering this product, the TIM will properly expand the adoption of DVB-H by the mass market, beyond what is allowed by users who buy new phones that support this technology," said Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano. "This gives a new dimension to the potential revenues that operators can extract from the DVB-H. The same DVB-H network that serves mobile phones can apply to users of laptops or even desktop PC desk. The combination of DVB-H with an advanced 3G modem allows the user to enjoy an unprecedented wireless multimedia services, "added Ironi.
The DT501HS is accompanied by an intuitive application developed by CyberLink. With the Siano receiver, CyberLink software it supports advanced features such as Picture-in-picture and live audio-visual guide to TV programs. Sales of DT501HS began in the Italian TIM stores starting next month in November, but we have not yet information on its cost to the public.
