L 'Acer Aspire 5930G is available in two versions (and 944G32BN Aspire 5930G-864G32MN Aspire 5930G-). In our review we tested the smaller model, the Aspire 5930G-864G32MN. Ecluse price, CPU and optical drive are different. The notebook we tested was equipped with a P8600 CPU (2.4 Ghz) and a standard DVD drive, the Aspire 5930G-944G32BN has a more powerful CPU, an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.5 Ghz, and a Blu-Ray drive. However, interfaces, equipment, workmanship, and design are more or less identical.

The plastics used for the case dell'Aspio 5930G is fairly stable and insensitive to pressure. Despite the plastic yields slightly under pressure, difficult to crunch. Even placing the notebook on a hard side deformation.

While the top of the cover is, like most notebooks with plastic case, very sensitive to pressure. Tends to yield under pressure where the Acer logo, which turns white when the notebook is turned on. Therefore, you must take care that no other books or put pressure against the cover. Another weak point of the case is the optical drive. If you have pressure at this point using thumb and forefinger, you will notice that this part of the case clearly yields.

L 'opening and closing the display works without noise or squeaking, with two hinges that hold the position permanently.

The display is blocked by a double hook that closes perfectly. However, you may need some sleight of hand to reopen the hook.

The Aspire 5930G is overall quite dark and mostly black, while the roof is illuminated with the exception of the Acer logo finished with a high gloss lacquer. The same applies to the frame of the display. So, this notebook needs, like other notebooks with glossy surfaces, cleaning frequently to appear in its beauty, and to prevent dirt and fingerprints everywhere.

A blue light illuminates the keyboard and display of hotkeys that control the WLAN and Bluetooth, or the default Internet browser and email client. However, the orange light of the key WLAN key a bit disturbing, because it attracts too much attention and does not coincide with the overall design of the other illuminaizoni.

Connectivity

Easy Port IV for the Docking Station

In terms of connectivity, Acer has considered all the needs by providing the Aspire 5930G all the standard ports needed for everyday use. The only door that someone might be missing is a FireWire. However, you have an eSATA port and an HDMI.

The placement of the doors is very good. Only LAN solution (left) and modem (right) could be more compact.

On the front side of the 5930G is only a USB 2.0 port and a mechanical control of the volume. The latter consists of a wheel, similar to those used long ago to control the volume of Walkmans. But we have not encountered a checkpoint for the volume maximum or minimum.

On the right side are the audio ports for headphones, microphone, and S / PDIF, followed by a DVD drive and two USB 2.0 ports. Immediately after there is a modem port.

The back of this notebook does not have interfaces with the exception of the connection for power. In addition, there are only between the air intakes for the cooling fan.

On the left cone Kensington Lock, Easy Port IV for connection to docking station, LAN, VGA-out, HDMI, USB / eSATA (combi-port), Express Card Slot 54, and 5in1 Card Reader (SD / MMC / MS / MS Pro / xD).

Thanks to Crystal Eye web cam 1.3 mega-pixels and a built-in microphone, both in the top center of the display, the notebook is ready for video communication over the Web

If you consider important to the security of data, the Aspire 5030G has a fingerprint reader. In addition, Acer extends the warranty to 24 months.

Input Devices

The keyboard of the Acer Aspire 5930G is very good and provides a comfortable typing with good feedback. The buttons are 18 mm x 18 mm and keys Enter, Shift, Backspace and have standard dimensions. You will not need much time to get used to this keyboard. Like many notebooks, the Acer Aspire 5930G also has the cursor keys move slightly forward.

Pressing the keyboard yields little, but it's a bit 'intense noise when typing. However, the keyboard dell'Aspio 5930G has only small disadvantages, and overall not considered as good

The touchpad has a slightly rough surface and is a bit 'lower than the surface of the case. Just below the touch pad there are buttons, among them the fingerprint reader. The touchpad buttons as well as working well and there are no problems or technical problems. One click noise that affects overall impression is excellent.

Display

The Acer Aspire 5930G has an 15.4-inch WXGA display with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and a 16:10 aspect ratio. CrystalBrite LCD With all the colors are strong, having a positive impact on computer games. Unfortunately, working outdoors very glossy screen suffers from reflections, while having a very good brightness.

By combining NVIDIA 9600M GT by a display with 8 ms response of the Aspire 5930G is ready for fast games like Crysis, Call of Duty 4 and Hellgate: London, no problem.

The Acer Aspire 5930G with an average brightness of 199.9 cd / m² is doing so well. The minimum brightness of 187 cd / m² were found on the left side of the display. The brightest part of the display is at the center, where we found 214 cd / m², certainly gave satisfactory.

Performance

After analyzing invoice details, design, equipment, etc.. we pass to the internal components. Here the main issue concerns the prestaizoni. And the 'Aspire 5930G, which belongs to the family of Centrino 2 or Montevina notebooks, has much to offer in this respect. An Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 GHz, the Penryn generation, is in charge of computing power. Supported by a total of 4 GB of RAM (2 x 2 GB PC-5300 memory module by Samsung) and a graphics card by nVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512 MB GDDR3 dedicated memoraia.

The result of this combination is commendable as evidenced by the benchmarks below. Standard applications such as Internet browsing, e-mail, office applications, listening to music or watch a movie, hardly a challenge for today's mobile. But if you want to try a few games, the 'Aspire 5930G gives you performance siffucienti for fun, but more about that in the next section.

As expected the old games like Doom 3 or FEAR are not a problem for the Aspire 5930G, even if you play with settings at maximum (Doom 3 on Ultra: 117.9 fps on FEAR and Max. Settings: 56 fps).

While Crysis is smooth with only a minimum resolution of 1024x728 and details. The benchmark posted 62.7 fps in Crysis GPU test and 57.7 fps in the CPU test. Medium details with the 9600M GT unfortunately never reached a good game performance. The Aspire 5930G has to admit defeat, having just got 22.9 fps in the GPU test test and 21.9 fps in the CPU benchmark. The values obtained are unfortunately not sufficient for a fluid game with medium level of detail.

In contrast the real-time strategy hit, World in Conflict, it works seamlessly with medium level of detail. The situation changes with high level of detail with DirectX10. Because the average frame rate is respectively just 8:17 p.m. fps with 1024x768 and 1280x800 pixels resolution, in our opinion a little 'just to have a real fun.

This is the first time in our tests for the games also included Hellgate: London. A heartfelt thanks to Electronic Arts for having kindly provided this game for our test.

We played for the initial levels under DX10 in its native resolution of 1280x800, realizing that the flow was only possible with a minimum setting. According to Fraps the frame rate varied between 15 and 30 fps in crowded places like railway stations, while indoors there was a constant frame rate of 30-40 fps. Here the question arises whether it is reasonable to work under DX10 if you have to greatly reduce the details, or is better to play in DirectX 9, but with higher level of detail. If you choose high details DirectX10 and the result is seen now only 5 fps.

Under DX9 Hellgate: London was smooth with medium details and an average of between 35 and 40 fps. Details can be applied only in higher inland areas, where we could detect between 40 and 45 frames per second. Missions outside, where the sky and the prospects are being felt, was just possible to stay in the critical limit of 30 frames per second with medium details.

With a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius, measured on the underside of the notebook, the Acer Aspire 5930G seems too warm.

Fortunately, the situation is different at the top. Where we measured a maximum temperature of 40.9 degrees Celsius in the central area, which appear to be quite acceptable. The surface temperature is higher in left and center dell'Aspio 5930G. While the right remains below the threshold of 33.3 degrees Celsius. Load

Speakers

The maximum volume dell'Aspio 5930G is more than enough. There is a sub-woofer, located on the bottom of the chassis, low feel good. But, these speakers seem a bit 'metal with some songs when the volume is high and you can feel the sub-woofer vibrate.

Despite the sub-woofer and virtual surround sound system we recommend using a hi-fi system.

Battery life

The Acer Aspire 5930G features a powerful lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4400 mAh (47.5 Wh, 10.8 V). Therefore, the Acer Aspire 5930G, which is equipped with a Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, reaches a good enough autonomy in the various tests.

According to Battery Eater Reader's test (minimum brightness, WLAN off, and setting up energy saving), was found a maximum range of about 226 minutes (3h 46min). Under load the Battery Eater Classic test (full load, any device access, maximum brightness) was the autonomy of 99 minutes.

We were satisfied with autonomy dell'Aspio 5930G watching a DVD, even if our battery was discharged after nearly 121 minutes watching 'The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers'. Therefore, the average length films are not a problem for the Aspire 5930G. Reducing the brightness will increase battery life of about 10-15 minutes.

Browsing the Internet via WLAN with energy saving, but with elevvata brightness, the battery lasted 163 minutes.
