Hewlett Packard (HP) has released a notebook trend of simple, no-frills market with its Compaq Presario CQ62. The test model is equipped with a 15.6-inch screen, native resolution of 1366x768 pixels and a highly reflective surface. As for the houses and connectivity, are in the standard and therefore not sufficient. The product is designed for office use and reduced use of multimedia and gaming.

Let's take a closer look at 'HP Compaq Presario CQ62-A04sg, an economic model with processor AMD Athlon II P320 (dual core, 2.1 GHz) and an ATI Radeon HD 4250 . A fast hard drive, 2.5 inch, 320 GB, 3 GB DDR3 RAM, WLAN 802.11 b / g / n Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version. The test model is available for about € 499. Build quality, battery life and performance can get? We tested the quality of CQ62 in our detailed review.

Homes

The case of the Compaq Presario is striking for its simple design but still manages to draw attention to herself. The device is suitable for the office but also as a companion reading in college. The texture prism on the cover of the screen and in the interior giving it a pleasant . Overall, the design is matte black. We still wonder why the inside of the screen bezel has a glossy finish. Has nothing to do with the context and makes it very susceptible to dust and scratches. The color options are limited and HP does not offer alternatives to that effect.

The entire chassis is made of plastic, which gives a good ergonomics and a good impression on the materials. The stability is adequate, although the areas of the keyboard and palm rests flex noticeably if you apply pressure. The notebook fetches points thanks to planes and joints without spaces and good construction. We find two covers maintenance under the base. They allow the exchange of RAM and a 2.5-inch hard drive. Another advantage is the battery pack inside. It may then be removed for use on desktop without creating holes that would make a bad placement on the desktop.

The hinges keep the screen position well, even if sometimes you notice any swaying. A protective cover is not mandatory but recommended at least, due to the outside mat and very solid. The notebook weighs 2.6 kg with 6-cell battery is inserted and large 37.4 x 24.6 x 3.2 - 3.7 cm (length x depth x height). Its weight and size are acceptable for this type of configuration.

Connectivity

Connectivity is limited to current standards for notebooks costing under € 500. However, there is everything necessary for daily use. On the left we have an analog video output (VGA), a modern HDMI port, RJ45 network port, two USB 2.0 ports, audio connectors function without S / PDIF and a cardreader. The HDMI port, as well as the 5-in-1 cardreader can be assessed positively. The latter supports SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO and xD, although we would have liked more if he had a protection in cases of disuse.

The optical drive, another USB 2.0 port, power connector and a Kensington lock to protect against theft are on the opposite side. The drive TSSTcorp (TS-L633N) is a CD and DVD for all standard sizes. The positioning of the usual status LED is interesting. They are on both sides of the notebook and can not be seen directly. The front and back of the notebook does not have interfaces or other components. The 6-cell battery of 47 watt hours is hardly known on the back and requires little space.

HP has done a good job with the placement of doors and then you have no space problems. In 'all you can see that everything is in line with today's standards, although it lacks the USB 3.0 and the ExpressCard/34 slot.

Communication

Mobile technologies are many offers, even if the latest standards are not used Appian. The notebook has an RJ45 port 10/100 Mbit by a Realtek controller for communication cable. The Presario is betting everything on a brand new wireless controller Broadcom BCM 4313. It supports the WLAN standard 802.11 b / g / n and is then updated. We also find Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR even if it is a bit 'behind the Bluetooth 3.0 + HS. A model with UMTS module is not expected and therefore we do not have the slot for the SIM.

Equipment

The allocations are sufficient for an immediate start, but not so large. In addition to notebooks, we find the power supply with European cable (2.8 meters long), the 6-cell battery, 47 watt hours , A quick start guide and various paperwork. Optional accessories available for purchase are limited to a replacement power supply (59 €), a battery 6Cell (149 euro), Headphones (30 €), a bag (19 €) and a mini laser mouse (25 €) can all be purchased in 'HP Store.

Warranty

The unit is backed by a manufacturer's warranty of 12 months. It includes service and valet. Over these 12 months will be worth the legal guarantee of 24 months but in that case the service is standard. If you want to, the warranty can be extended to 24, 36 or 48 months, including valet service. Respectively apply to an outlay of 58, 165, and 237 € for the. For a notebook of 500 € seems only appropriate to extend to 24 months.

Input Devices

Keyboard

HP does not use a keyboard and chiclet tip instead on a generous standard keyboard. The keys have an appropriate size and type of an area of 15 x 45 mm. The key pressure point is firm, which provides an immediate return and the length of the pressure is very straightforward. The few shortcuts in the left are interesting. They allow fast access to some applications (browser, calculator, email, etc.).. Are troublesome in the early days of use because the shift key is usually located on the outer rim. The functions of FN are enabled keyboard factory and not marked by symbols. For example, to use the F1 ... F12 keys, the Fn key should be pressed. This setting is quite hostile and could annoy.

Touchpad

The touchpad has been integrated smartly in the palm rest. However, margin, or scroll vertically, not so marked as to make it easy to exit from working with the consequent need for repositioning. The ergonomics are good thanks to the prismatic texture which allows precise control. One downside of this device is the lack of Synaptic support multi-touch. His absence would be bypassed by a vertical scrolling bar invisible.

Screen in the media

HP uses a 15.6-inch display with a very glossy surface. It has a native resolution of 1366x768 pixels in 16:9 format. Higher resolution (interpolated) can not be selected. A glossy screen is not the best for outdoor use. Good values should compensate for this defect.

The entire surface of the screen is lit by small LEDs. They provide a bright and uniform lighting. The screen is square in the middle of the mass in this direction with a maximum value of 198 cd / m 2. The average of 188.2 cd / m 2 is good and high-end appliances, such as' Apple MacBook Pro (13-inch glossy screen), far exceed the more than 270 cd / m 2. In addition to the reflecting surface, the low light is another point against against external use.

Distribution of brightness

The strong reduction of brightness on the left of the screen is disarming. There is a difference of about 30 cd / m 2 area with more light. Therefore the lighting is reduced to only 83 cd / m 2. Fortunately, this fluctuation is not visible during use. Another point against the screen is about the black value of 1.23 cd / m 2, which prevents a saturated black. It seems more a shade of gray to lower the contrast a little to 155:1. Subjectively, the colors shown and the focus convincing.

To fully test the screen, we also evaluated the spectrum of colors reproducible with X-Rite i1Display 2 (hardware + software). The Compaq Presario, colored in comparison, only partly convincing. This notebook is not suited for professional users as the sRGB color space may not be reproduced completely. Compared to the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15 , Hewlett Packard laptop is still very good.

External use is very limited due to the surface of the screen very bright and very low values. Use in direct sunlight is not possible due to the development of intense reflections. Use in the light you can not live with some restrictions. The reflections can not be avoided, but are still trapped in part by the light of the screen.

The stability of viewing angles is discrete only in the horizontal plane. It remains stable in excessive movements on this route and the colors are not affected whatsoever. The screen does not allow deviations accentuated the vertical plane. The slightest movement causes inversion of colors and fabrications.

Performance

Hewlett Packard (HP) hardware using AMD and ATI for its cheapest notebook, lined for office applications. The processor is an AMD Athlon II P320 clocked at 2.1 GHz in the two cores (dual core). In addition to the two cores, only two threads are used. So multi-tasking performance suffers. Another downside of this is the CPU power dissipation (TDP) of 25 watts. In comparison to the current Intel Core processor 2010, that AMD does not have onboard video.

Graphics are handled by an ATI Radeon HD 4250 integrated into the chipset (RS880M AMD). It has a clock of 500 MHz and supports DirectX 10.1 and Shader 4.0. Consume less than the previous ATI Radeon HD 4200, but is faster because it has the same clock. The HD video can be viewed via UVD 2 and then the graphics are on par with the Intel GMA HD .

System Information: Notebook HP Compaq Presario CQ62-A04sg

3 GB of DDR3 Elpida RAM (2 GB) and Samsung (1 GB) (1066 MHz, DDR3-10600S) and a 2.5-inch hard disk and 320 GB are part of the configuration of the HP Compaq Presario CQ62-A04sg. Replacement of these components is made easy thanks to two great cover maintenance. The ram is limited to a maximum of 8 GB on two benches. All 2.5-inch hard disk (hard disk or solid state drive) with overall height of 9.5 mm can be used safely. You can not have direct access to other components.

To create a basis for comparison, we tested the notebook as usual, and then enable the profile high-performance Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, and disables the power saving features and connecting it to the mains. The hardware overclocking was not possible in this case.

Application performance are valid. The test model achieved in 1790 (32bit), respectively, and 2056 points (64 bit) in the test of single-core Cinebench R10 and then very good values for office notebooks. Last PCMark Vantage also certify a good result with a total score of 3567 points. The new Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 11 with Intel Core and Intel GMA 380UM i3-HD or the HP 625 notebook with more or less the same configuration, place it in the immediate vicinity, such as performance.

HP uses a Hitachi Travelstar 7K500 (Model: HTS725032A9A) from the gross capacity of 250 GB hard disk as. The speed is good, thanks to 7200 revolutions per minute. HD Tune Pro 4.6 results in a maximum transfer (reading) of 95.7 MB per second. Overall, a 2.5-inch hard disk that can stand out from the crowd. Despite the good values of the transfer, the response time of 18 milliseconds is the bottleneck of the system. A solid state drive (SSD) would be much faster this way.

Overall results on the HD and Video Games

The HD video over the Internet or stored locally on your computer, are becoming increasingly popular. The Presario CQ62 has no problems playing video smoothly in 480, 720 and 1080p with the ATI graphics card. We see a movie trailer in HD and H.264 video in three resolutions on the local for a quick check.

Only small excursions into the world of video games are possible with this unit. However, it must be smooth gaming sessions that are only possible at lower resolutions and the smallest detail. For more sophisticated 3D ambitions, we must focus on a more expensive multimedia notebook with more powerful hardware.

Emissions

Noise

The characteristics of the fan is important as the perpetual operation of a noisy fan would be annoying in the long run. The CQ62 is doing very well with a maximum of 31.4 dB (A) in the ideal way. This value is not very important because the fan does not necessarily work. The 2.5-inch hard disk is not so silent with its 34.3 dB (A). The highest values we measured are due mainly to the maximum rotational speed of 7200 rpm. However, the drive will not create unusual noise or vibration.

The use of course-load is accompanied by a greater noise. The notebook is felt with a value of 35.4 dB (A), although it is far from annoying. Overall, a good presentation for a 15.6-inch notebook with this configuration.

Temperature

The small fan inside the CQ62 works together with a copper cooler. The fan not only does his job quietly, but efficiently. All temperatures are in the green and blue respectively in the area in our chart during normal use. No apparent surface warming with a maximum of 29.2 degrees Celsius which does not affect in any ergonomics.

The fan should operate more under load and the maximum value increased to 35.2 degrees Celsius. This increase has an impact on the external temperature of the case. It feels a little heat under the notebook, while the area of the palm rest is unaffected. The included power adapter does not show any irregularities with its 40.6 degrees Celsius and the values are acceptable. Load

Speakers

We have two speakers products from Altec Lansing for sound playback. They are located above the keyboard. Sound quality is adequate for a notebook, but not exceptional. The treble is clear and the bass played only up to a certain extent. You will then need to compromise in bass reproduction. The notebook has a standard 3.5 mm jack and an HDMI output for a better, external audio playback. Even the modern TV or AV receiver can be connected to this port.

Battery life

The mediocre hardware AMD and ATI had nothing to do with what a netbook. The nominal power dissipation (TDP) of AMD Athlon P320 II is 25 watts, which should be added to the energy dissipated by the video card. With all power saving options enabled, power consumption during normal use is only 12.8 watts . It goes up to 18.4 (normal mode) while under higher loads, respectively, up to a maximum of 47.5 watts at full load. HP has equipped the notebook with a 6-cell battery, which does not allow more than 47 watt hours. Similar batteries are generally found in small netbooks (eg Asus Eee PC netbook 1015PN ).

When the notebook is put under stress, the battery undergoes high energy demands. This situation can be simulated with the "Classic Test" tool BatteryEater. A calculation OpenGL runs at maximum brightness for this purpose. To further increase the load, mobile technologies are activated, and activates the high-profile performance of Windows 7. The battery dies after only 84 minutes (1 hour and 24 minutes). Battery life is acceptable instead of at a time of 3 hours and 24 minutes to check emails and surf the Internet.

A battery of CQ62 is enough for two movies. While the "Classic Test" was used to determine the minimum autonomy, the "Reader's Test" will determine the maximum possible autonomy. With it, all mobile technologies are disabled, the power saving options of Windows 7 are activated and the maximum screen resolution is selected. The battery runs out fairly quickly this time after 4 hours and 5 minutes. Unfortunately, you can not use more capacious batteries because they are not available. However, not enter into the compartment anyway.

Risultati complessivi
