Small but powerful. Small, light and potetente these attributes reflect better the Asus A8Jp. More and more people choose light notebook but did not provide powerful computing and high graphics. The following is a solution ASUS A8Jp.

Homes

There are two dominant colors nell'Asus A8Jp: black and gray. At the base is attached to a cover gray screen decorated with a black frame has a gray back side. The handset we reviewed has some scratches that shows us that the materials are not very strong.

The shape is typical of the Asus family. Flat, well-marked lines and corners sharp. Like many other Asus laptops A8Jp also tries to look closer, with slightly tapered sides of the case.

The workmanship is good. We have not revealed any of the classic weaknesses as creaking and uneven spaces

Regarding the stiffness want to draw attention to the fact that the cover of the display flexes without making great efforts. Does not generally cause problems during use, but care must be taken during transport.

It can reveal the same phenomenon at the bottom of the notebook. More precisely in the region with the fans even if the homes withstand higher pressures. However there is nothing to fear from the inside should not be touched. :)

Both the hinges of the display have the right size. However, the plastic cover that covers moves slightly and this does not seem very sturdy. In addition, we also noticed an effect seen-not seen when changing the angle of angle of the monitor.

Two metal parts are fixed to the side of the display of 'Asus A8Jp's that "pop" each time the monitor is closed. When closed the display moves very slightly at the corners.

The ports are on the left, right and back. In particular, the connection ports used for a long time, such as video and Ian are at the back.

Let's see in detail the location of connection ports:

left side
ExpressCard slot
4in1 Cardreader
1xUSB 2.0
1xFirewire
Audio ports (headphone S / PDIF, microphone)
DVD player
rear
2xUSB 2.0
socket
S-Video out
VGA
DVI port
LAN (RJ11)
Modem (RJ45)
right side
2xUSB 2.0

Overall, the ports are in sufficient numbers that will satisfy even the most refined palates.

Input Devices

Surprisingly, almost all the keys have a reasonable size - only the function keys have a size slightly smaller than normal.

Type on this keyboard is comfortable. The noise does not disturb and do not hear the annoying click-clack "

The additional keys - as typical for Asus - are quite small and are difficult to detect at first glance. With these keys we can monitor performance, enable Bluetooth and WLAN.

We spend a few words for the touch pad.
From a purely aesthetic point of view fits very well into the case of Asus A8Jp. The buttons are not separate fact form a single surface with the rest of the touch pad.

Apart from the advantages from a purely aesthetic point from a practical point of view to use this touch pad has some deficiencies. For example, the response is not the best.

Both buttons can be used to better only putting pressure on the outer corners and in between is a dead zone quite extensive.

Operation Outdoors

Because of the excellent display brightness, the Asus A8Jp can also be used outdoors in bright environments also. However, the glossy display because of the annoying reflections that make it difficult to read.

Horizontal stability is limited by the glossy screen even though the video is still readable even if we move sideways. Vertically, working outside the usual work area, you can see, as usual, the display tends to become darker (looking from the bottom upwards) or brighter (looking from top to bottom)

Performance

Equipped with a Core 2 Duo T7200 CPU at 2.0GHz and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 with 256MB video memory make the Asus A8Jp powerful despite the size 14 inches.

Regarding the performance of ATI X1700 is comparable to the GeForce 7600 and clearly better than the X1600. With this card just to play the latest games even if he must reduce the resolution and details.

With a budget of this type the Asus A8Jp can run any application and in particular those media.

More information about the video card can be found in our comparison of graphics cards. Detailed information about the Core 2 Duo CPU to find here .

Conclusions

Asus A8Jp

The Asus A8Jp we can place between classes multimedia notebook and subnotebook. Has excellent mobility thanks to its lightweight, small size but with high-performance hardware.

The keyboard is generally user-friendly. Instead, the touch pad is not great. The lack in particular properties of floating and keys are easy to use, so we strongly recommend using an external mouse.

The performance of the ATI X1700 graphics card is a lower level than what we expected. Approach, is to those of the Geforce 7600 but provides sufficient computing power to run the latest games (perhaps reducing the details).

The monitor impresses us good brightness and good lighting. The contrast and reaction time are also good.

Regarding emissions must highlight the fact that the fans are always in stock.

Last but not least, the longevity of the battery. May last just over three hours to a minimum of an hour depending on the use made of it.
