High capacity battery for Asus Eee PC: is it worth the effort?
The enormous success Asus Eee PC, all over the world, has led many battery manufacturers to design and deploy high-capacity solutions for the home Netbook Asus. HKEPC made some tests with the A220 battery-P701H produced by ESI, 10.400mAh offers a capacity of about 6 cells, comparing with the classic 4-cell battery adapter, and 5.800mAh. ESI batteries are available in two colors (black and white) to match properly with the different colors of the Eee PC 701 and 900.
As frequently happens, the high-capacity battery raises significantly the weight of the small low cost laptop, which raised from 0.99 Kg to 1.12 Kg As for performance, HKEPC conducted two tests of "stress":
WiFi, Brightness 100%, Idle
WiFi, Brightness 100%, to 480p playback digital content

The notebook battery lasts 30 years!
Among the many advantages that distinguish a notebook from a common desktop PC there is no doubt the portability, the freedom to use anywhere, any time, even if this power is strictly conditioned by the autonomy of the system. Leaving aside exceptional cases, the battery of a laptop has an average duration of about two hours, with a maximum of 10 hours of continuous work on some processors with ultra low power consumption. This record is destined to be broken soon, because, according to a recent study conducted in research laboratories in the United States Air Force, could be very near the birth of the first battery for notebook, running for 30 years!
This innovative battery is made up betavoltaiche cells, derived from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the sole source of energy. From the natural decay of radioactive material derived the emission of beta particles that transform into electric power that can power a notebook for individual years.

Batteries for laptops: the scandal to the definition of new design standards
The recall by Dell, to 4.1 million potentially defective laptop batteries, triggered a domino effect that quickly involved all the major notebook manufacturers in one of the largest product recall campaigns of all time: Apple , Lenovo, Toshiba, Fujitsu, and last, the same Sony have announced their commitment to a program for a total of about 10 million units recalled.

At the center of the controversy of lithium-ion batteries made by Sony Corp. that, as acknowledged by the same manufacturer, and as documented in widely circulated pictures and videos on the web, may go short circuit and catch fire because of tiny fragments of metal left in the cells as a production residue.
The CPSC (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission), which is working with Sony to produce a plan for global call for all batteries at risk, which emphasizes the danger of accidents is still low (around 50 cases out of 10 million notebooks sold the U.S.), though not be underestimated.
